Celebrated anti-Fascist Czech caricaturist, poet, novelist, editor of Lidové noviny, Hoffmeister led a remarkable life in Czechoslovakia, France and the USA. In 1920, he with Karel Teige founded Devětsil, the association of Czech avant-garde artists.
