Since its founding in 1942, Novyi zhurnal/The New Review has been among the most important Russian-language emigre literary journals worldwide. It published important material from Russians who had settled elsewhere, and samizdat smuggled from the USSR. Cover design by celebrated artist M V Dobuzhinsky who died in New York in 1957.
