Covers creased, somewhat thumbed. Lev Kopelev. Лев Зино́вьевич (За́лманович) Ко́пелев 1912-1997 Soviet author and dissident, born in Kiev. It was Kopelev who approached Tvardovsky, editor of Novy Mir, to urge publication of Solzhenitsyn's ‘Ivan Denisovich’. Kopelev's own works were distributed via samizdat and smuggled out of Russia. He died in Cologne.
