Howard Swan and Victor Betis translated François Gouin's definitve work "L'art d'enseigner et d'étudier les langues" or The Art of Teaching and Studying Languages which was published in London in 1892. New approaches to language teaching, such as Gouin's, in the late nineteenth century became part of what was known as 'The Reform Movement'. The authors use their own approach in this work basing it on Gouin's principles.
