Sir Edward John Russell OBE FRS - British soil chemist, agriculture scientist, and director of Rothamsted Experimental Station from 1912 to 1943. The Essex Hall Lecture was founded by the British and Foreign Unitarian Association in 1892 with the object of providing a venue for lectures on religious themes of general interest.
