Description
A very nice bright copy of this scarce guidebook. One gathering loose, minor chipping to edges, small usual tear to fold in map, else in excellent condition. Original paper covered printed boards, with seventy illustrations and four maps (one folding). Packed full of detailed advertisements. Well presented with much useful information, full index, appendices. Fifth edition. Illustrated.

Many reproductions of photographs from W L H Skeen's studio. Guide book to Colombo in Sri Lanka or Ceylon. George Skeen, Government Printer of Ceylon, came from a family of established printers and photographers who had set up businesses in South Asia from the 1860s. His uncle was William Skeen, renown early photographer of Ceylon. The present book was first published in 1887 and the author's Guide to Kandy in 1903. Information includes that of railways (with a map), cycling as well as general history, places of interest, and visitors' impressions.
