Small 8vo., H 16.5cm x L 10.25cm. contemporary sheep, “G. H.” with gilt floral device between stamped in gilt to both boards. No engraved title-page (A1). Leaf A1 is blank. [38]+286[iv] pp.. Signatures: A⁸(A1+pi²) *⁸ 2*⁴ B-R⁸ S⁴ T⁸ V⁶. Numerous engraved text illustrations, one full page. Imprimatur r: "Recensui hunc librum... Ex ædibus Londinensibus. Iul. 23. 1632. Guil. Bray. Episcopo Londinensi Capellanus Domesticus". Some page numbering awry. Woodcut initials; woodcut ornaments. John Trotter’s ex libris inside with earlier name in ink dated 1675 to f.e.p.. Contemporary arithmetic to last page in ink and pencil. Spine head pulled, spine and edges rubbed, gilt from device rubbed. Engraved title page possibly never bound in. No off-setting. First English edition, attributed to Jean Leurechon, as Henry Van Etten was believed to be his pseudonym. The epistle dedicatory is signed H. Van Etten. COPAC nine copies. Trotter family armorial bookplate, arms supported by lion and unicorn, surmounted by crest of knight and horse, and with motto "In promptu". John TROTTER 1667-1718 was a keen book collector and frequenter of auctions.
