Description

Quarto, (18 x 23 cm), full vellum later binding by J. Seacome, bookseller of Chester (active 1828-1836). Spine gilt decorated in compartments, with raised bands and morocco title label. Gilt dentelles to outer and inner edges, cut with all edges gilt, marbled end-papers. Lilian Baker’s copy with her ink signature dated 1921 to front free end-paper. Also; in her hand a note to torn paste-down “Unable to trace”, and a translation of the title page: “Genuine Epistles of the Martyr St Ignatius, with Epistles of Saint Barnabus, edited & containing notes by Vossius. Translated from Old Greek into Latin” Old/contemporary ink marginalia, note in same hand to final page “Facto sunt noto quo videantur marginale ab ipsis Beatiddimi Patris Pearsonii... Clarissimi Gronovio
