In four volumes (complete set with map and all plates). Original leather boards, later spines, and two with original morocco labels. Engraved portrait frontispieces to each volume. Decorated head and tailpieces. Many b/w engraved plates of buildings and portraits, folding Pocket Map of London and Westminster printed for Carington Bowles [1766]. Internally all volumes very good and all plates complete, paper crisp and appears unread. Original leather boards bumped at edges and have been not very attractively backed in pig-skin(?). Two volumes retain the original morocco labels to spine. Upper board to volume one detached but present. Small section of map unobtrusively reinforced.Rebound, this would be a handsome set as, inside, the books are excellent. “in 1766 he [Entick] brought out an edition of William Maitland's Survey of London with additions.” (Wiki).Vol I: 500 pp., two plates, Vol. II:516pp., 3 plates, Vol III: 464 pp., 7 plates, one fldg. map, in-text illus.. Portraits include that of the author, Sir Thomas Gresham, Sir Richard Wittington (with cat!) and others, 2 maps, engravings of very many notable buildings and bridges, mainly S. Wale delin., T. Simpson sculp.. Map printed for Carington Bowles (1724-1793). "Ex libris T.G. Alderman. Consacrons nous à ce saint oeuvre" label to paste-downs of each volume.
