Description
Original decorated boards, lithographed decorated dust-wrapper, profusely illustrated. Lithographed plates, other b/w illustrations, colour frontispiece. An illustrated edition in the very rare original lithographed dust-wrapper. Original purple decorated cloth. Text in Russian.
Appears unused. Book in excellent condition. Fragile and very scarce dust-wrapper in very good condition with just a little chipping at edges, small piece torn at spine head with minor loss.
An important edition published by Academia with the dust-wrapper, plates and b/w illustrations by 13 members (Masters of Analytic Art) of the school of Pavel Nikolaevich Filonov, Russian Futurist painter and graphic artist of ".. extraordinary originality" John Milner pp148-150. Executed under Filonov's direct supervision, art work by Alisa Poret, Mihail Petrovich Tsybasov, Tatyana Glebova amongst others. “In 1933 the Soviet publishing house Academia produced a remarkable volume: an edition of the folk epic Kalevala...” (Milner-Gulland, 1983).
