Alexei Stakhanov (1906 – 1977) was a Soviet miner and Hero of Socialist Labour, member of CPSU. He became a celebrity in 1935 as part of what became known as the Stakhanovite movement—a campaign intended to increase worker productivity and to demonstrate the superiority of the socialist economic system.22 issues available. Dated between January 1936 and December 1941 (not a run). Early issues 16 pp., later issues c. 8 pp.. each. All illustrated with b/w photographs. The Friends of the Soviet Union (London) along with the Russia Today Society and the Anglo-Soviet Friendship Committee were all precursors of the British-Soviet Friendship Society.
