Description

A good copy, clean and tight. In contemporary public library binding retaining original wrappers to upper board. Lib. plate inside and occasional neat stamps. With copied typescript of this work in the London South American Missionary Society (corrections incorporated). Neat home-made card covers, Lanyon-Orgill's distinctive bookplate inside. Used; Good Language family of northern Argentina, western Paraguay, and southeastern Bolivia. Mataco–Guaicuru or Macro-Waikurúan is a hypothetical language family consisting of the Guaicuruan, Matacoan, and sometimes Mascoian and Charruan families. These are spoken in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia (Wiki). The additional material may be seen as fascinating ephemera related to the works by the contentious Peter Lanyon-Orgill. Lanyon-Orgill (1924-2002) made himself a place in every bibliography of Pacific linguistics without, it could be argued, ever making any original contribution to the field. At one extreme his publishing activities verged on fraud and plagiarism, but from another point of view he made available work which otherwise might have languished unknown in manuscript form"
