Description

8vo., in original dust-wrapper, 3 maps (some folding), Slavonic word list. In excellent condition, almost as new. Unused in original unclipped dust-wrapper. Best edition. One of the best comparative references on Slavonic languages with 3 maps including one folding, tables, long bibliography, word list. Contents: The Slavs, Balto-Slavonic and Proto-Slavonic, The Alphabet, Common Slavonic and Old Bulgarian, Russian, West Slavonic (Polish, Wendish, Czechoslovak), South Slavonic (Slovene, Serbocroat, Bulgarian) "The initial chapters provide a detailed and readable account of the early distribution of the Slavs. Particularly useful for numerous references to early historical works in Greek and Latin, with which the authors show greater familiarity. The work met with scholarly criticism for certain inconsistencies of presentation and lack of familiarity with the less central members of the Slavic language family, this perhaps due in some measure to the hastened wartime preparation of the original edition" (Krause, 2014). Distinctive Faber dust-wrapper in green uniform with others in the series.
