Description
Tall quarto, handsomely bound in half burgundy morocco. Spine with raised bands ruled and lettered gilt. Marbled boards and endpapers. Portrait frontis. from photograph. Entire text hand-written in ink and signed A. Marchand. Inscribed over 208 leaves verso only. Title page in red, black and green ink. Thick art paper. Last page of writing states “Old klarimid luce et dulcimid love in Ceol’ pace”. Followed by some blanks.
Joseph Alexandre Marchand (1851-1914), autoro de la plan- lingvo Dilpok. A magnificent work of great labour, beautifully produced. Probably only copy. Marchand had already published his Dilpok version of Paul et Virginie conventionally, the previous year.Loosely enclosed; 3 page pamphlet printed in Besançon advertising Marchand’s works on his artificial language Dilpok.
From the erstwhile Jesuit novitiate Manresa House, Roehampton. With bookplate “Dom. Prob. Roehampton” neatly to paste-down.
