Book ID 33321

A very nice, clean tight copy. Small 8vo., 260pp. Dust wrapper chipped and a little discoloured, mark to page one else a good copy. War Economy Paper. Used; Very Good Clichés, the "coin(s) so battered by use as to be defaced," are anathema to Eric Partridge. He says, "their ubiquity is remarkable and rather frightening,"... clichés are instances of "inanition.".... What, for example, does "in the event of an emergency" add, beyond verbosity, instead of "in an emergency"?... he lists, explains, and categorises more than 2,000 trite and tired phrases to avoid "at all costs."
