A clean, tight copy. Small 8vo., 12 x 18cm., original brown decorated cloth, xliii+643+[12]pp., 8 b/w plates (all present), in-text illustrations. Internally very clean with a little mild damp-spotting. Appears little used. Corners bruised, spine faded, ends chipped and upper hinge and joint cracked but tight and no loss. Two gatherings slightly protruding. Longman’s catalogue for 1882 bound in. Used; Good Celebrated writer on cookery. Acton was the first person to introduce the now-universal practice of listing ingredients and giving suggested cooking times for each recipe.
