Ivan Alekseyevich Bunin 1870-1953 [Ива́н Алексе́евич Бу́нин] is considered one of the great masters of Russian language and was the first to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. The translator Isabel Hapgood studied a number of Slavonic languages including Russian and Old Church Slavonic. She admired the Russian Orthodox Liturgy and choral singing.
