Green cloth gilt, xi+412pp., corners bumped, damp marked to upper board, label and prev. owners’ name to f.ep, G++. Used; Good Wyld (1870–1945) was a leading English lexicographer and philologist during his time. One theory he held was that the best speakers of English were army officers: they spoke the King’s English with no regional accent. Wyld coined the phrase “Received Standard English”. Following Daniel Jones, the phonetician, it was later decided to use the phrase ‘Received Pronunciation’ or RP.
