Nivkh (otherwise known as Gilyak) is considered genetically isolated, though often classified as Paleosiberian. Typologically, Nivkh is an agglutinative language with elements of morphological fusion and some analytical features. Spoken by some 4,500 people residing on the Amur River and on Sakhalin Island.
