Translation of 'Literaturen der Völker der Sowjetunion' which in turn was based on a translation from the Russian. Its approach is that of the Socialist Realist school of literary criticism. The first twenty pages are devoted to Russian literature while the rest of the book examines the literatures of the other former Soviet Republics (Armenian, Azeri, Belorussian, Estonian, Georgian, Kazakh, Kirghiz, Latvian, Lithuanian, Moldavian, Tazik, Turkmen, Ukrainian, Uzbek) and is still an important source of reference.
