William Richard Morfill (1834-1909) was the first Professor of Russian in Britain and contributed greatly to the study of Slavonic languages and all things Slav. He wrote a history of Russia in the same series as the present volume. Amongst other works, he wrote grammars of Russian, Polish, Serbia, Bulgarian and Czech.
