Edges a little rubbed. Pioneering study, despite being ‘deceptively small’, Vising contended that Anglo-Norman was dominant in all strata of society during the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. His theory was later contradicted. Anglo-Norman, also known as Anglo-Norman French, was a dialect of French that was used in England. Other notable scholars in the field were Mildred K Pope and Ruth Dean.
