Used; Like New Sergey Mikhalkov, Russian children's author and poet and satirical writer, rivalled such names as Korney Chukovsky, Samuil Marshak and Agniya Barto in popularity from the 1930s onwards. He was also well-known for writing the lyrics for the Soviet Union's national anthem in 1943, and later twice revising them to accommodate the changing political landscape. Mikhalkov's children's poems about "Uncle Styopa", an enormously tall police officer, have remained hugely popular in Russia since they first appeared in 1935, and are still learned in nursery schools.
