Original green cloth, a little marked, lettered in black, xv+371pp., 8 diagrams and very many b/w in-text illustrations. Very good condition. Used; Very Good Tipped-in to frontis, typed presentation with hand-coloured coat-of-arms: "A town that has made magnificent contributions to the industrial greatness of Great Britain" from the then mayor D. J.(?) Evans and dated 24th November 1936. Interesting historical document, aimed at schools but with a wealth of historical and other detail. Chapters cover the geography and geology of the area, history from prehistoric and Roman times, through the Middle Ages, the early iron masters, the Dowlais works, dissent, George Borrow's visit, local government, lists of flora and fauna, local fairy tales and translations of place-names.
