Not dated possibly first edition. Probably early- mid 1890s. Original price one shilling. 'Yellowback' in original printed glazed boards, 136pp with long publisher's list bound-in. Lacking backstrip, boards darkened, upper board almost detached, fore-edges a little grubby, internally sound, no loss but rather dusty and occasionally marked. Collectable; Acceptable John Hartley (1839-1915) was an English poet born in Halifax who wrote in the Yorkshire dialect. He wrote much prose and poetry, often of a sentimental nature, dealing with the poverty of the district. He also wrote a number of popular books featuring the character "Sammywell Grimes".
