Vladimir Alexeyevich Soloukhin (1924 –1997) was born to a peasant family in the region of Vladimir. Seen as the leading figure of the "village prose" group of writers. "Searching for Icons in Russia", his best known work, describes his hobby of collecting icons travelling throughout the countryside in the 1950's and 1960's.
