We specialise in books on language; dictionaries, grammars, courses, phrase-books, linguistics and general philology.  We deal in all languages but particularly love the Slavonic and lesser-spoken ones - English slang and dialect, pidgins and creoles, Celtica, Uralic and Altaic groups, the Classics and all Ancient languages.

We also specialise in rare and out-of-print books on the lost Empires of Europe and Asia and their successors, from Byzantium and the Ottomans, through Austria-Hungary and the Russia of the Tsars and commissars to the Central Asia of Mongolia, Siberia, the 'Stans' and the Great Game.  Travel-writing, Baedekers and Murrays and other good guide books are part of our stock.

The Russian Avant Garde - A slap in the face of public taste!  

"Russian Avant-Garde" is a broad term encompassing a variety of artistic movements prevalent in Russia and the early Soviet Union from around the nineteen hundreds until the late 1930s.  "World of Art" (Mir Iskusstvo), Futurism and Constructivism and are perhaps the best know genres but many other groups were formed and reformed.Recently, Marijana Dworski Books had the good fortune to purchase a library of  books selected for their visual impact and exciting graphic design, as well as many of great literary importance.  All can be categorised Avant-Garde.  What we offer here, reflects the exciting new ventures in graphic art, book cover design photography and film with works by Mayakovsky, Dmitri Moor, Favorsky, Lentulov and many more including Filonov's Kalevala. Collections for sale, terms negotiable.  Click here for more details.
